Spanglish Baby is a blog for the many parents out there who are raising their children to be both bilingual and bicultural. And if you haven't checked the recent Census, that speaks for a pretty hefty chunk of the population. And if you ask a child development specialist, bilingual children enjoy cognitive benefits far beyond speaking two languages. The only problem as Ana L. Flores and Roxana A. Soto saw it was that there was no appropriate online resources for this growing demographic.
So they took matters into their own hands and launched Spanglish Baby. The site is broken down into several categories, including: Daily Learning, Ask an Expert, Must Reads, The Culture of Food, Traditions + Culture, Forums as well as others. There's also places for product reviews and giveaways. But they're not going to review just anything. As they say, "it’s important to note that we ONLY plan on reviewing products we like and believe you will find worth your hard-earned dinero." Next fall, they're even turning the whole thing into a book.
Spanglish Baby represents a true growth market. It's a unique market, sure. But it's still parents trying to raise their children as best they can, relying on the help and resources of others in the community. In any language that makes a lot of sense.
