      Summary of expertise:
Doctor Egami is a Distinguished Professor at UT. He is also a Distinguished Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and interim director of the UT-ORNL Joint Institute for Neutron Sciences. Dr. Egami is also the former department chair of the Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was also a professor of materials science and engineering. Dr. Egami is an expert in structure-property relationships in materials, neutron and X-ray scattering of amorphous and crystalline materials, atomistic theory and modeling of solids and liquids, magnetism, ferroelectricity, superconductivity, computer simulations and atomic structural analysis. He pioneered the development of new techniques to determine the atomic structure and motion of the atoms in solids, using both neutron and X-ray scattering.
      White paper/research:
Local atomic structure and dynamics of electronic oxides including superconducting, ferroelectric, catalytic and magnetic oxides. Lattice effects and mechanisms of giant magnetoresistivity and high temperature superconductivity. Magnetism and structure of amorphous and nanocrystalline solids. Theory of glass formation, deformation and glass transition. Neutron scattering, synchrotron X-ray scattering, including dynamic and static atomic pair-distribution function analysis, differential anomalous X-ray diffraction, inelastic neutron and X-ray scattering and surface X-ray scattering.
