Summary of expertise:
An experienced civil trial and appellate attorney, Rick has particular depth in issues related to sovereign immunity and in complex family law appeals. Clients have included oil and gas companies, governmental entities, and private individuals. He is a former Assistant Solicitor General at the Solicitor General's Office of the Attorney General of Texas. He has presented numerous oral arguments in state appellate courts throughout Texas, including the Supreme Court of Texas, and before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court in several cases. His experience includes substantive and procedural areas, including state and federal constitutional and jurisdictional issues, as well as administrative and governmental appeals. Rick is a frequent participant at appellate conferences in Texas, speaking on topics including the evolution of appellate standards, interlocutory appeals and mandamus proceedings. Rick is the Managing Partner at Hankinson LLP.
