      Summary of expertise:
Peter Ticktin received his first law degree at the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario, after he attended Medical School for one year, and where he was active on the University’s Student Counsel. While in law school, he started to work for the Student Police Force as Chief. In his 3rd year, he was Chief. Even in law school, he fought 10 real cases in traffic court and small claims court, winning all 10. In one, he defeated his own university’s parking tickets, as penalty clauses, and they were all uncollectable. He was praised by the local newspaper for fighting within the system. He began practicing law in Ontario, Canada, as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1972. In his first year of practice, he defeated Ontario’s Uniform Summons which caused every summary judgment (misdemeanor) complaint which used that form to be dismissed.

While in active practice in Ontario, he tried numerous cases and appeared frequently before the Appellate Courts and on two occasions before the Supreme Court of Canada. In the mid-80s, Mr. Ticktin relocated to Florida and commenced his effort to obtain a second law degree which was required for admission to The Florida Bar. He graduated cum laude, was elected into the Order of the Coif (U.S. law school equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa Key), received the Gold Scholarship, and ultimately scored sufficiently high on his Bar Exams that the course he took used his name and score in its advertising.

Since his admission to The Florida Bar in 1991, Mr. Ticktin has appeared in the Federal trial and appellate courts of the Southern District of Florida, the Middle District of Florida, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Southern District of New York, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Western District of Texas, the Southern District of Texas and numerous state courts, including the trial and appeal courts, and Supreme Court of Florida, the trial, appellate, and the Supreme Court of California, as well as the trial courts of Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and North Carolina and more.

In his general experience, Mr. Ticktin has been a farmer, a builder, and at one time owned and operated small heavy equipment. He was the CEO of a small public company, The Pony Express, and to this day, he puts the emphasis on “Business” in the category of Business Law for his clients.

In the practice of law, he was the leader in Florida in the area of HIV litigation and has received a good deal of media attention for his involvement in the odd cases that he handled from monkey bite cases to the intricacies of pharmaceutical products liability cases. He came more to public attention when he won a two-week trial which was televised on Court TV in which he won the only case ever tried for the wrongful taking of organs for transplant purposes. Mr. Ticktin deals with litigation as a crisis management issue for individuals as well as for businesses. As a former CEO, he understands and aims at relieving his CEO clients from deep involvement in legal battles, so that he or she can return to running the business.

Mr. Ticktin’s practice is centered on representing people with creative approaches to achieve the most pragmatically sensible results. Mr. Ticktin is also instrumental in supervising and attending to other work of The Ticktin Law Group, including Divorce, Real Estate, Personal Injury, and other areas of the practice of law.
