      Summary of expertise:
      Dr. Westphal holds a medical degree from Stanford University. She did her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University of California, Los Angeles and Stanford University. Dr Westphal received fellowship training in Endocrinology-Molecular Biology from Stanford University, and she completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at University of California, San Francisco. She is board certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Westphal has served on the faculty at Stanford University since 1991. Her clinical and research interests include IVF techniques, fertility preservation, and third party reproduction. Her interest in fertility preservation for cancer survivors led her to set up one of the first oocyte cryopreservation programs in the country in 1999. She was a recipient of a grant from the Breast Cancer Research Program to study Chemotherapy induced ovarian damage: prevention and impact.
