      Dr. Johan Groen is Chief Technology Officer for Xylem a leading global water technology provider, enabling customers to transport, treat, test and efficiently use water in public utility, residential, commercial, agricultural and industrial settings. He is responsible for ensuring Xylem, which launched in 2011 from the spinoff of the water-related businesses of ITT Corporation, maintains a strong competitive advantage from both a technology and product point of view.

      Groen joined ITT earlier this year (2011) from Kemira Oyj, a Finland-based chemical engineering company. At Kemira, Groen was Executive Vice President of Research, Development and Technology, and a member of their management board. He was responsible for restructuring and aligning their global research, development and technology portfolio in water (municipal and industrial), oil and mining, paper, chemical solutions and coating business segments in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas.

      Prior to Kemira, Groen was Research & Development Manager at Stora Enso Publishing Paper Inc., the leading producer of publication papers in Europe, and a global leader in the production of paper and wood products. He led the strategic development of the business unit’s product portfolio and managed the process engineering departments of several mills. Additionally, Groen served in key research, technology, product development, and engineering roles at Metso Corporation and the Valmet Paper Corporation, both of which are based in Finland.

      Dr. Groen earned his Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from the Abo Akademi University in Turku, Finland, where he currently holds an adjunct professorship. He is also awarded a Life-time Membership in the Swedish Technology Academy.
