Should journalists be licensed? Should they have some sort of certification indicating that they're legitimate and trained professionals?
We all know that the worlds of journalism and media are in distress and people are thinking of ways to try and save what some call objective journalism. Supporters say that objectivity isn't always present in things like blog posts and personal websites, so perhaps there should be some sort of way to show that someone is a "real" journalist and not just someone with a WordPress account. Other professions require a certification so why not journalists? Something to think about for a while.
This can also lead to the never-ending debate of whether or not bloggers are real journalists. What do you think? Should journalists have a license, and do you consider bloggers journalists? There are so many ways to look at this argument!
I read an article this morning that really made me think and inspired me to comment on ths topic. The wheels are still turning on this one! It's titled, "No, licensing journalists isn't the answer," by Matthew Ingram of GigaOm. Take a read and see what you think. It's worth the time.
