Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, PR Newswire media relations manager Christine Cube selects an industry or subject and a handful of sites that do a good job with promoting and blogging about the space. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tell Christine why on PR Newswire for Bloggers.
I’ll let you in on a secret. I literally can watch a movie over and over again, sometimes several times within the same day, and countless times over the course of, well, forever -- much to my husband’s dismay. And it’s not like I actually watch the movie -- I more listen to it and look up when a favorite scene appears.
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with the movie "Man of Steel," which has been on HBO a bunch. (The week before that, it was "The Great Gatsby." And the week before that, I couldn’t get enough of "Les Miserables.")
And, I am quite curious about "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."
So I figured this was as good a time as any to check out some movie and film blogs.
FirstShowing is about “connecting Hollywood with its audience.” It is managed by founder and owner Alex Billington. “There are the people who make movies and there are those who see them,” the blog says. “FirstShowing is bringing these two together in a profound new approach that will change the way you experience movies. We provide the latest movie news, movie trailers, movie reviews, interviews, opinions, hype and buzz, and everything else related to the cinematic experience straight from Hollywood and beyond." Talk about a cool site. A couple of posts immediately caught my eye: First photo of Henry Cavill in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and Andre 3000 is Legend Jimi Hendrix in ‘Jimi: All is By My Side’ Trailer. And this interview with Hugh Jackman on the Lessons He’s Learned from Wolverine. Follow @firstshowing on Twitter.
Meet in the Lobby offers “slightly smart cinema discussion, with a passion for film that knows no bounds … Just a pow-wow for people who love and respect all movie genres.” The site features a small team of writers overseen by editor-in-chief Norm Schrager, who regularly has been writing film reviews since 1999. Meet in the Lobby features an assortment of movie must-haves, including movie posters, previews, reviews, and trailers. This trailer brought a smile to my face: What’s Up Chuck? New Movie Preview, Trailer: Peanuts. I also found this review amusing – Just One of the Guys: The Bachelor Weekend Film Review. Follow @MeetInTheLobby on Twitter.
FilmoFilia aims to “unlock your imagination.” It’s a private, independently owned site that features movie news, trailers, posters, reviews, photos, Cannes and Venice film festival news, and Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards news. Leading FilmoFilia is general manager Aleksandar Popovic. I like the flow of this site, and it’s nicely laid out with great photographs. I really enjoyed several posts on Filmofilia, especially The Penguins of Madagascar official trailer and the set photos (part 1, from Paris) of Jennifer Lawrence during The Hunger Games – MockingJay. Follow @filmofilia on Twitter.
/Film features blogging about the “reel world.” It was created years ago by Peter Sciretta after a “stint writing full time for the AOL-owned movie blog Cinematical.” The first post to catch my eye was rooted in Harry Potter: Diagon Alley Tour Part 4 (Wait, there are three others that I missed?): Wiseacres, Scribbulus, Wands by Gregorovitch, Quality Quidditch. So then I quickly dug up the one prior: Diagon Alley Tour Part 3: Florean Fortescue, Ollivanders, Gringotts Bank, Magical Menagerie. Incidentally, these are fun. And we’re only just beginning. Another post I enjoyed was this review — ‘Life Itself’ is a beautiful tribute to movies, criticism, and of course Roger Ebert. /Film also features a Cool Stuff archive of art, books, gadgets, and gear. Follow @slashfilm on Twitter.
