I cannot tell a lie: I love the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Va. It's not far from my home, and it's a great place to see some incredible art and working studios. It just so happens the Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association (TFAA) keeps a blog dedicated to its thriving artist community. An interesting recent post is "Should I -- or my child -- major in art?" Part one: Practical advice. In this post, a few TFAA members share advice to prospective art majors and aspiring artists. It's the first of three posts to tackle this subject. Another great post is Alison Sigethy’s "Guide Boats": kayaks as symbolism and solace. There are some really beautiful photos with this one. Read the full post on PR Newswire for Bloggers here.
There are three things that make me happy about fall’s cool weather: new boots, blazers, and sweaters to fall in love with. The only thing that isn’t happy is my wallet. As I scoured fashion blogs for frugal finds, Jessie Holeva's Trend Hungry caught my eye. The Philadelphia-based fashion blogger lives up to her mantra "Fat Closet, Skinny Budget" with posts like this Trendy vs Spendy spotlight comparing a $550 Burberry London blouse with its under-$35 look-alike. On the heels of New York Fashion Week, you can also check out her NYFW Photo Diary for more inspiration. A former radio DJ, Holeva has taken her passion for budget-friendly fashion to the airwaves with the weekly syndicated trend forecast “Trend Hungry Tuesday” found on New York’s WPLJ and other radio stations. Her style sense has also been featured in Woman’s Day, The Wall Street Journal, Shape.com, SheKnows, eHow, Gal Time, and Nicole Miller’s Blog Nicole Daily. Read the full post here.
The Health Care Blog publishes posts and reprints on health care, economics, health tech and national health care policy. Its scope and depth is pretty amazing, and it reaches a large audience -- 500,000 health care professionals and consumers following the industry. On the right side of The Health Care Blog's front page, you'll see a long list of posts -- trending pieces and blogs about the affordable care act, insurance exchanges, reform watch, electronic health records, wellness, leadership, and health technology. The recent blog post Inside the NHS Health IT Program features an interesting Q & A with NHS National Director for Patients and Information Tim Kelsey. THCB is tracked by "an influential national audience, reaching a vast ecosystem of health care industry observers, including hospitals and research institutions and companies, vendors, suppliers and technology companies."
