MommyUpgrade is a blog about mom stuff made easier. It's written by Trista Perot and technically is geared only toward moms and girl stuff. (Her daughter is Princess Cupcake.) In Perot's words: "It’s where we share things that make memories in our little world. And sometimes we poke a little fun at the hubs. But he never reads our blog so it’s our little secret. Ours meaning yours and ours. Let’s keep it that way. No boys allowed." MommyUpgrade covers a lot of territory, including party peeking, tutorials, teachers gifts, recipes, reviews, celebrities, and give-aways. There's even a spot for elf on a shelf ideas for the holidays. I especially appreciated her honesty about what would happen if she included her husband in the blog regularly: "If we wanted it to include him, we’d call it “parent upgrade” or something drab like that. And then we’d have to talk about golf clubs and LSU football recruiting. Bleh." Read the full review here.
As a freelancer, I like to compare notes every now and then with other writers about writing and resources. Sites like Freelance Folder help toward that cause. Freelance Folder is a good resource for bloggers. One of its all-time most popular blog posts is 20 Must-Read Blogs for Freelance Writers. There are a bunch of blogs on this list that I'm familiar with and an almost equal number that I'd like to start reading. Freelance Folder offers tips, news, advice, forums and a job board. The site is owned by marketer and designer Mason Hipp, and his writing team includes a few seasoned freelancers and bloggers. Freelancer Laura Spencer recently just posted an interesting piece on the pros and cons of starting a freelance coaching or mentoring business. Read the full review here.
Zillow Blog covers the real estate world. This blog will help you navigate the murky waters of mortgages. It also allows you to gawk at celebrity home purchases and speculation. There also are sections on market advice, finance, tips, trends and eye candy. The eye candy section is particularly intriguing. Where else can you take a look at Gwen Stefani's former Spanish cabana? Or see Adele's Beverly Hills rental, which now seeks a buyer to continue its A-list legacy. But this site's not all stargazing. There are also tips -- Bob Vila's 5 must-do tasks for April and a Q&A on revocable trusts and wrap-around mortgages. Read the full review here.
